Hand Marking Demonstrations

Hallmarking is the oldest form of consumer protection and dates back to the 12th Century. A hallmark ensures that the buyer has a guarantee of the precious metal content of an item they are buying.

Amid an industry of evolving technology, Edinburgh Assay Office’s Master Marker, Charlie Munro, is responsible for safeguarding and nurturing the traditional skills of hand marking within the office.

Charlie will be conducting hand marking demonstrations, explaining the importance of hallmarking, and showing you how to apply a hallmark at the times below.

Hand marking demonstrations will take place on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 November between 3:30 – 4:30pm.
