In Conversation: Annie Ruthven-Taggart of Argems Jewellery

Saturday, 7 November 2020 from 12:15-13:00

Annie Ruthven-Taggart of Artgems Jewellery works in fair trade precious metals and semiprecious stones to create three-dimensional sculptural forms inspired by marine life and geological structures. Hand cut watercolour paper shapes are milled on to fine silver and 18ct gold creating a graphic element to the work and echoing the sculptural forms. Particular attention is given to the interrelationships between elements, how they intersect and the harmony of composition between them. Miniature hinge mechanisms are used to create highly wearable jewellery with a fluidity of movement. Great attention is given to the finishing of each piece to compliment the delicacy of the surface textures.

In Conversation: Caitlin Hegney

Sunday, 8 November 2020 from 14:15-15:00

Caitlin Hegney is a Scottish jeweller who celebrates Ancient Heritage in her work, exploring rhythmic markings in metal and reclaimed wood. Caitlin is fascinated by the communicative value of lines and how their ambiguity transcends and resonates with humanity. Caitlin’s practice energises traditional metalworking and woodworking techniques. She hammers into metal with hand forged tools and draws with wire. Wood is carved and dyed to celebrate the inherent rhythmic wood grain. Caitlin’s practice is driven by the unpredictability of process; the shade of dyed wood or quality of line in metal takes on its own personality in a sequence.

In Conversation: Ellis Mhairi Cameron

Sunday, 8 November 2020 from 16:45-17:30

Ellis Mhairi Cameron is a Scottish fine jeweller. She creates sculptural fine jewellery, inspired by her Scottish Heritage. Inspiration is taken from the landscape and the medieval jewellery hoards which have been found across the Scottish Highlands. Ellis uses traditional techniques and hand skills to give her pieces their signature rugged aesthetic. Working in gold and diamonds, each piece is a fusion of intricacy and erosion. At the foundation of her work is a belief in the beauty of imperfections, hand craftsmanship and a desire to provide clients with jewellery which can be handed down throughout the generations.
