Meet the Maker

Karina Gill

Influenced by organic repetition in nature, the principals of print-making and textiles has created a unique outcome: delicate yet solid, natural yet structural, simple yet curiously complex.

Concerned with artistic form rather than function, the pieces explore tension between irregular, organic texture and perfectly repeating structure.

Free-hand acid etching creates a heavily textured yet delicate surface, giving each individual bowl an organic quality. The material is cut, ensuring no wastage – one complete sheet of silver is used to create each piece. It’s in this transformation that the magic lies. The silver is hand-sculpted and hammered to create a final geometric bowl, which intrigues through its apparent solidity and tactility.
