Karina Gill

Conjured and cajoled from cold, hard sheets of metal, Karina Gill’s decorative and intriguingly sensitive work is full of contradictions. Working in silver, yet rooted in textile, Karina draws influence from nature’s patterns and organic repetition to create a heavily textured yet delicate surface through the process of acid etching.

Playing both with surface and form, Karina’s three dimensional objects seem to magic themselves out of the flat surface. Yet the magic lies in their creation: the single, two-dimensional textured sheet of metal, is hand-sculpted, hammered, folded and manipulated to cleverly create a final, geometric bowl, which intrigues us through its apparent solidity and tactile surface.
