Elements Edinburgh 1 provided the perfect backdrop to exhibit the Incorporation of Goldsmith’s fascinating collection, Silver of the Stars. The collection is made up of ten unique pieces of silverware, each designed for and inspired by a Scottish celebrity and created by a Scottish silversmith. The celebrities included Sean Connery, Ewan McGregor, Ian Rankin and Lulu, just to name a few.

Sarah Hutchison was one of the silversmiths selected to create a drinking vessel. Sarah was paired with Texas lead singer Sharleen Spiteri and designed a stunning diamond studded teapot, with delicate gold ribbons surrounding the main body of the pot.

Sarah took part in Elements Edinburgh 1, and, we were delighted that as a result of her stand there and the exhibition featuring her teapot upstairs, Sarah was commissioned to make a new teapot, inspired by her original design, to add to the prestigious Chitra Collection of Newby’s teas.

The Chitra Collection is a celebration of tea through the ages and is a fascinating collection of tea-ware, dating back centuries with pieces from across the globe and including works by Wedgwood, Tiffany and Co. and Fabergé.

Sarah’s new teapot was made by spinning the inner body, forging the handle and hammering and piercing the outer skin by hand. Each delicate strand was formed individually. The final touch is the addition of diamonds and the Newby logo on the underside.

Sarah was honoured to be included in this collection and said “With pieces dating back for centuries, I feel that by adding to this collection, my work will become a little piece of history – marking this moment in time.”
