Meet a Maker

Grainne Morton

A graduate of Edinburgh College of Art, Grainne set up her practice in 1995. Grainne’s creativity comes from her culture: traditional crafts, folklore, music and fairy tales.

Grainne’s work is profoundly personal, almost in a subconscious way. Whilst all of above feed her designs, her personality is represented. She can be contradictory and this is apparent in her work – vintage/contemporary, precious/non-precious, spontaneous/ordered, junk/treasure.

Collecting and collections inform and become part of her jewellery. Her vast menagerie of found items become her materials, individually set and arranged together with an emphasis on balance, scale, shape and form. There is always a narrative and something unexpected.
